if u are just swimming with NO spear in an area where a motor boat CAN NOT travel, NO diver down flag needs to be displayed.

once u enter the ocean with any type of spear u MUST HAVE the diver down flag displayed.

Just wanted to Bump this thread from a little while ago. Lots of great information out there for everyone.

This thread should be a "STICKY" or something that is always visible at the top of the forum.

Also for Shops on the Big Island:

North Kohala

Arakaki Store
53-4142 Akoni Pule Hwy
Kapaau, HI 96755
(808) 889-5262

This is our family store. My dad got me into diving when I was 13 and I got all of my equipment right at our store. He sells fishing and diving supplies for cheap! I live in Oahu now and wanted to get back into diving so my mom was here so she took me to Izuo and I forget the name of the other place but they manufacture the sea horse 3 prongs. We got to buy our supplies at the retail price cause my dad orders from them and hes friends with them too. Long story short, the 7ft 3 prong was around $50, my dad sells it for around $60, Maui Sporting Goods sells it for $75. When my dad orders any fishing/diving supply it comes on the barge and he drive 30 mins to pick it up at young brothers. Maui sporting goods is a 30 minute drive to the retailer yet its so much more. I asked my dad why he sells it so cheap and he said it's to keep the loyal customers. My mom told me people from Hilo & Kona drive all the way to Kohala just to buy from us cause its so much cheaper.
He also well not so much now cause he's super busy. He fixes guns too. He said he fixes a lot of pneumatic guns but never had time lately. Since he cannot people have to send it in to the manufacture cause a lot of people dont want to open those up cause of how much pressure is inside.

But yeah, If your in the area go check it out. If not you can always call the store for prices and what they carry.
