That's an amazing fish and I offer you a big congratulations.
Interesting though that now I'd probably pass on a big kaku and any kahala because of the odds that it might be hot or that I might not even be able to land it. If I was diving a place that the fish might also be "landmark fish" (like people are familiar with it and go to see it) I would probably take that into consideration and pass. Not to take away from your catch, it's amazing and I'm happy that it was clean and you used every bit of it, I just wanted to offer my point of view.

Another thing to consider is that many times the large kaku actually help opelu fishermen by serving as the "opelu mama" - kind of watching over schools of opelu like its own personal herd of cattle and fending off other predators.

.......hey Colin I got to thinking that your fish would be pushing up close to a world record you know. If you look on the IUSA website the record for Great Barracuda is only 62#. If I were you I would submit it to them. Hell yeah!! Rob Allen, Westside Dive, World Record!!

...also come by and I'll give you that washer. Lates

I ran into DASyHard at Westside Dive today, that fish looks even bigger in the other photos he had. That is a monster fish, it has teeth like a grizzly bear. You have to put in for the record, I always like to see records coming out of Hawaii.
