Stop the Marine Life Protection Act Spearfishing Meet hosted by the OC Spearos

Join the Fight to Stop the Marine Life Protection Act!

Many of the best fishing spots along California’s coast are now closed to recreational fishing under the Marine Life Protection Act (MLPA).KeepAmericaFishing™ and the Partnership for Sustainable Oceans (PSO) and the OC Spearos need your help to fund litigation that will reverse the decisions that created these closures – decisions that were based on a flawed and biased process. Our legal team has already made significant progress, but we need your help to ensure that the decisions to create a vast network of no fishing zones in California’s public waters are overturned.

The OC Spearos, Orange County’s spearfishing and freedive club, will be hosting the Laguna Legacy 2 tournament on May 21, 2011 at 8am.The tournament will serve as a fundraiser for the Partners for Sustainable Oceans, United Anglers, and Watermen’s Alliance who have sought litigation against the MLPA’s, which seek to close down California’s most valuable fishing grounds. Please show your support by attending, rallying around the cause and help bring awareness to the injustices we are facing as Californian fishermen of all types. Food will be available with donation and a raffle will be held to help raise funds for the litigation. This is going to be a hard battle, but with the support of California’s fishing community we can help fight to keep our precious fishing grounds open for generations to come. For more information about the tournament visit www.ocspearos.org.

OC Spearos is a spearfishing and freediving club, which educates the public on the ecologically friendly sport of spearfishing. We are committed to preserving the marine environment through public outreach and club events. We are dedicated to being law abiding and respectful citizens at all times, and to obeying all Fish and Game laws. We promote the sport of spearfishing and freediving by encouraging club participation.

Club members are also encouraged to mentor others who are new to the sport. We invite members to help one another to become more proficient and skilled in the sport. Club membership builds long lasting friendships and unforgettable memories. We keep it legal – “We eat what we take and take what we eat”. We continually push each other to dive deeper, set and achieve personal goals, and befriend young members of the spearfishing community.

Above all we are here to have fun through education and activities so that we can continue to enjoy the beauty and offerings of the ocean.
