FOOD NETWORK’S “DINERS, DRIVE-INS AND DIVES” GOES HAWAIIAN

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

On April 5, “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives” will air an episode featuring three of Oahu’s favorite eateries – Hank’s Haute Dogs, Highway Inn, and Nico’s at Pier 38. The popular show is hosted by Guy Fieri, known for his trademark bleached spiked hair and laid back California attitude. In its 8th season, “DDD” travels across America visiting classic spots known for their unique take on ‘comfort food’.

“This is exciting. It’s such a popular show. This is the first time Guy and ‘DDD’ has come to Hawaii, so we feel even more pumped to be on it,” said Nico Chaize, owner of Nico’s at Pier 38.

Nico’s is located waterfront on Pier 38 just off Nimitz Highway in Honolulu. Immediately next door is the United Fishing Agency, home of the Honolulu Fish Auction, where Nico selects his fish every morning. Opened in 2005, the casual open-air diner quickly established a reputation with the locals for serving fresh fish that has gourmet appeal and wallet-friendly prices.

Also featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives will be Hank’s Haute Dogs and Highway Inn.

Award-winning restaurateur Henry Adaniya took his fine-dining knowledge and expertise and put it into a hot dog. Hank’s features authentic Chicago hot dogs, local sausage and innovative gourmet creations inspired by regional and traditional flavors.  Hank Haute Dogs is located on Coral St in Kaka’ako as well as an express in Waikiki.

Highway Inn opened in 1947 by Seiichi and Sachiko “Nancy” Toguchi. This family-owned and operated restaurant in the heart of Waipahu continues to thrive 63 years later because of its tradition of serving quality Hawaiian and American food has remained unchanged and secure in the hearts and stomachs of locals and visitors. The restaurant recently completed a renovation that included enhancements and expansions to its seafood market and catering facilities.

To commemorate the event, all three restaurants have indicated that on the day of the show a special menu item or promotion will be offered to their customers.

Announcing “The Blue Wild” Expo on June 5 and 6, 2010, in the magic city of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida!  It’s our fourth year, and we’ve outgrown our previous venue, so we are holding it at the prestigious and modern Broward County Convention Center.

We have plenty of action for spearos and freedivers, but we also have presentations and product demos for those interested in underwater photography or videography.  We have several world-class marine artists exhibiting their works, and many unique presentations — whether you want to learn more about blackouts, shark management, or dive history….we have something for everyone, including a Film Festival!

Speakers this year: Stan Waterman (famous underwater cinematographer), Dr. Jose Castro (world-renowned shark scientist), Rob Torelli (spearo and award-winning videographer), Pipin Ferreras , Manny Puig, Ron Mullins, Art Pinder, Dan MacMahon, Kirk Krack, Dimitris Kollias, and many more.

We have all the major brands represented and many Exhibitors who will give demos including Jay and Julie Riffe, Mark Laboccetta, Daryl Wong, Ray Powell, Guy Skinner, Roger Yazbeck, Shane Breedt, and more. The Expo also features practical hands-on Workshops and a huge Raffle at the end of each day with over $30K of prizes!

For out-of-towners, our sponsoring hotel, the Marriott Courtyard on Ft. Lauderdale Beach is offering an amazing $89/room rate (on the beach), as is the Marriott Renaissance Hotel which is across the street and walking distance to the Convention Center. We recommend flying into Ft. Lauderdale airport and taking a taxi.
