Beuchat Signs Top U.S. Skin Diver Erick Salado

Saturday, July 4th, 2009

LAKE WORTH, FL – July 3, 2009 – SpearoTek, Inc., the exclusive distributor of Beuchat International in the U.S., announced today that Dr. Erick Salado, one of the top five skin divers in the United States, was signed to Team Beuchat. France-based Beuchat International is the worldwide market leader in the fields of scuba diving and spearfishing, and SpearoTek, Inc., through its partnership with Beuchat, makes Beuchat products available to dealers throughout the United States.

Salado, born in Cuba, is an orthopedic surgeon who immigrated to the U.S. in 1983. Having built his own spear shooter at age nine, Salado steadily gained notoriety in spearfishing competitions in his native Cuba. After a hiatus away from competitions while he went through orthopedic surgery training and the accreditation process to get his Florida medical license, Salado returned to competition in 2002. Since that time, Salado has competed in local, regional and statewide tournaments, as well as five U.S. National championships. He is currently involved in an intense comprehensive training to compete at the 2009 U.S. National Spearfishing Championship, the most challenging competition in the United States.

Salado placed fourth as both a team and an individual at the United States National Skin Diving Spearfishing Championship (U.S.O.A.) in 2008. He was a member of the first place team at the 2008 Spearboard Open, and he placed first as an individual competitor at the 2008 Florida State Championship S.F.D.C. (South Florida Diving Council). In 2009 he won the Spearfishing & Diving Winter Tournament and was part of the first place team.  He also participated as Team USA’s doctor for the 2008 World Spearfishing Championship in Isla de Margarita, Venezuela.

“I use Beuchat spearguns because they represent quality and dependability,” says Salado. “Everyone in the diving community is aware of the superb quality of Beuchat diving and spearfishing equipment. I’ve used it for over 30 years, and it has helped me achieve many victories. I look forward to many more as part of Team Beuchat!”

Founded in the 1930s, Beuchat has been involved in the development of all aspects of underwater activities. SpearoTek, Inc. is a leading U.S. wholesale distribution company for the most innovative spearfishing and freediving equipment from around the world. Through extensive research, development and testing, SpearoTek, Inc. is first when it comes to bringing cutting-edge spearfishing technology to U.S. markets.
